  • A message from our Principal
Oct 29, 2024 · Mountain Valley School District No. Re 1

    A message from our Principal

    Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for welcoming me to Mountain Valley School. I am excited to be a part of this community. I would like to quickly provide a summary of the new cell phone and visitor screening procedures we are implementing. I want to invite everyone to our Veterans Day Celebration and share a vision I hold for our school.

Cell phone use and door screening changes have been implemented this year to help with providing a safe and sound education for our students. To make the campus safer for all students and staff, extra screening is being conducted at our front office. We are asking all visitors who come to retrieve students to remain in the vestibule while the student(s) are called to the office. To help students concentrate and focus on their studies, cell phone use is not permitted at any time other than during lunch. At all other times cell phones are to be turned off and out of sight. First time offenders must surrender their phones until the end of the school day. Second time offenders must arrange for parents/guardians to retrieve their phones. If there is ever an urgent need to contact your student, the most efficient and proper way to do so is to contact the front office. This way your message can quickly and privately get to your child with minimal disruption to the school day or your student can be ready for you when you arrive. We appreciate your assistance and understanding with these changes.

Mountain Valley School will hold our Veterans Day celebration, November 11 starting at 11:30 in the auxiliary gym and finishing in the cafeteria with lunch. We are inviting to our celebration any veterans who have served this great nation and any community members wishing to join our celebration. The invitation is posted on our website for this as well.

Along with the above, I would like to share part of my vision for our school, Mountain Valley School. Education has always been a large part of my life. Due to my mother’s influence and now my heart, I hold great respect for those who serve as educators. As I examined the different assessment scores from the students at MVS, I saw an undeniable improvement over the past few years. Your teachers are working hard to make this happen, and their continual efforts look to continue this trend. I believe MVS can become the school of choice within the valley. We can do this by providing a solid foundation of education on which all students might build a successful future. Small rural schools do face many unique challenges. Together, we can overcome any challenges and provide quality schooling for your children.

    Sincerely,

    David Thornton, PhD

    Principal, Mountain Valley School
